Review and Recommendation Process for Locally Approved Instructional Materials and Content
Pursuant to 20-2-1017(b) Each local board of education shall establish a review and recommendation process for any locally approved instructional materials and content that are adopted or used by the local school system.
Review and Recommendation Process for Locally Approved Instructional Materials and Content
- When considering new instructional materials for use across the Hall County School District, the district will:
Pilot material at a limited number of schools at the respective level – elementary, middle or high school level. - Place information, including links to the instructional material website, on the district website.
- Provide a mechanism for collecting stakeholder (student, parent, teacher, and/or community) feedback regarding the materials on the district website during the duration of the pilot.
Upon completion of the pilot and district review of the feedback, district personnel will make a recommendation to move forward with its acquisition or make the decision to not pursue said material. The board will provide final approval of instructional materials within the budget process.
District Instructional Materials Currently Under Review
If a parent or community member would like to challenge any proposed or current instructional material for appropriateness, the form is on file at every school within the media specialist handbook. Board Policy IFA details the challenge/review process.
