Instructional Materials – MS/HS
The Georgia Department of Education is fully responsible for developing and maintaining performance standards for Georgia students. Georgia Standards of Excellence are implemented in Hall County Public Schools.Georgia Standards of Excellence for each content and/or course may be found at the GeorgiaStandards.org.Resources that support the standards have been carefully reviewed and selected by educators who serve as leaders in the Hall County School District.
IXL
The Hall County School District utilizes IXL to support and enhance our middle school students’ math experience. IXL is an interactive platform in which students can practice current math concepts while also reviewing previously-learned material. This personalized practice is not only beneficial for reinforcing classroom learning but also for identifying and addressing any gaps in understanding. Beyond individual practice, IXL functions as a universal screener for 6-8 students which provides essential data three times a year. This data helps inform instructional decisions on how to best meet student needs. These decisions include daily classroom math instruction and, when necessary, supplemental math support classes for students that require more targeted interventions. IXL data is also utilized to measure progress on the 8th Grade Fluency goal on the HCSD Balanced Scorecard by carefully tracking performance in the Numbers and Operations domain. This data-driven approach is crucial for fostering each student’s mathematical growth and achieving academic success. For more information on this program, please visit (https://www.ixl.com/).
Choosing the Best
The Hall County School District utilizes Choosing the Best curriculum in middle and high school health courses. Choosing the Best is a sexual risk avoidance education program that provides age-appropriate curricula including video vignettes, real life case studies, role plays, interactive exercises and small-group discussions. The program is research based with the mission of helping students make healthy decisions. For more information on the program, please visit https://www.choosingthebest.com/.
Although “Choosing the Best” is recommended for grades 6-8, the HCSD has elected to implement this curriculum in 7th grade. The progression is below:
- 7th Grade – Choosing the Best: Way
- 8th Grade – Choosing the Best: Path
- 9th Grade – Choosing the Best: Life
Each of these resources have been presented and approved by the Hall County Board of Education. These are open sessions and the public is allowed to comment.
