Lauren Sloan
Lauren Sloan teaches Language Arts at Cherokee Bluff Middle School and is pursuing a Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction through the University of North Georgia. In her application, she stated:
Educators are tasked with modeling life-long learning and personal goal setting, and instilling these traits within our students. I consciously practice and teach these ideals within my instruction by modeling a consistent and intentional path to personal growth and achievement. Currently, I am pursuing my ESOL endorsement in an effort to build a teaching toolbox filled with student supports for all learners. My passion for teaching is driven by a desire to craft curriculum that aligns with standards through building connections, empowering self-reflection, and through motivation.
Christina Starlin
Christina Starlin teaches Visual Arts at West Hall High School, and she is pursuing a Masters of Arts in Art Education through Piedmont University. In her application, she wrote:
I became a teacher because of my high school art teacher – a wonderful mentor who saved my life and pushed me to my potential – and after four years in education, I cannot imagine myself anywhere else. I’m here because of my students. They are all on this journey of becoming who they truly want to be – who they’re meant to be – and I know the importance and impact a mentor can have on this journey. The better I can be as a teacher, the better I can help my students as they each endeavor to reach their potential.
