2024 Young Georgia Authors Pioneer RESA Region Winners
Congratulations to our 2024 Young Georgia Authors Pioneer RESA Region Winners!
- Colton Hulsey, a 1st grader from Riverbend Elementary School, won the regional competition for his short story, “Germs.”
- Aliyah Pierce, a 6th grader from World Language Academy – Middle, won the regional competition for her short story, “I Believe in Candles.”
We are so proud of these writers! They won for their grade levels compared to the entire Pioneer RESA Region: Banks, Dawson, Fannin, Franklin, Gainesville City, Habersham, Hall, Hart, Lumpkin, Mountain Education Charter High School, Rabun Stephens, Towns, Union, and White County. They now move on to the state competition! State winners are announced later in the spring.
The Young Georgia Authors Writing Competition (YGA), sponsored by the Georgia Council of Teachers of English, is open to students in grades kindergarten through 12th. Student submissions can be short stories, poetry, essays, journals, personal narratives, reports, or other original student writing, and they are judged on the four domains in the Georgia Performance Standards: Ideas, organization, cohesiveness, and language.
