The Georgia High School Graduation Test (GHSGT) in Writing was administered to first-time juniors in Hall County on September 30 and 94% of the 1,235 Hall County students passed compared to 91% statewide and 93% in the Pioneer RESA area. In the “Exceeds Standards” category, Hall students surpassed both the state and the Pioneer RESA with 12% exceeding compared to the state with 9% and RESA with 11%. In order to meet Georgia State Board of Education high school graduation requirements, students must pass the writing portion of the GHSGT in addition to the Mathematics, English/language Arts, Science, and Social Studies content areas.

Construction is ready to begin on a $2.8 million, 24,000 square foot facility that will front Atlanta Highway on the campus of LCCA. With ground breaking scheduled for December 2009, the building will be completed in August of 2010 in time to welcome students for the beginning of the 2010-2011 school-year.
The new culinary arts building will have two classrooms, a coffee shop with tall cafe tables, a restaurant, a teaching kitchen, a working kitchen for the restaurant, a large meeting area, and a gift shop. The gift shop will serve as a hands-on business through which digital marketing and hospitality students can gain experience. The Hall County School System teamed with Lanier Technical College to earn the $2.78 million grant from the Technical College System of Georgia. The partnership is one of five in the state to earn grants that promote dual enrollment for high school students. Lt. Governor Casey Cagle paid a key role in helping the school system and Lanier Tech land the grant.

West Hall High School Principal Jackie Adams has been notified that the school will be among twenty-seven (27) across the state to earn the distinction of being a “2009 Georgia School of Excellence.” State Superintendent of Schools Kathy Cox, in naming the 2009 Georgia Schools of Excellence that have shown the greatest improvement or highest achievement across the state, said, "These schools are getting great results from all students in many different areas. The teachers, students and administrators at these schools truly represent excellence. Congratulations to our 2009 Georgia Schools of Excellence."

Hall County Schools has launched a third “high” experience with Digital High. Digital High follows in the same plans as Habitat and Hospitality Highs. Digital High offers students interested in gaining hands-on experience in the interactive and online media marketing fields. Full Media, a full-service multi-media marketing firm based in Gainesville, Georgia is hosting the first Digital High intern Dusty Staub. Dusty, an honors student at North Hall High School, will be graduating in the spring.
